“Travel is never a matter of money, but of courage”
First of all, I’m not an expert traveler. I started my love for traveling almost 3 years ago but, I have certainly learned some tips that helps me on my adventures. So today, I’ll be showing you a list of tips and guides that would help you learn to travel on a budget.
PLAN YOUR TRIP WELL AND AHEAD OF TIME
- Before you jump-start on a journey, you have to plan first. Where do you want to go? How much money are you willing to spend? How are you going to get the best deals for your trips? Research extensively. There’s always Google to help you in that. Look for a travel guide. Read some travel blogs and get some tips from them. There’s nothing worse than going to the destination of your dreams, but not having enough money to get the full experience.
TRAVEL DURING LOW SEASON
- Timing is the key! Don’t go during high season like Summer and Christmas days if you really want to travel on a budget because prices are really high, from foods to accommodation.
TRY TO GO TO LESS TRAVELED PLACES
- I know that most travelers opt to go to famous tourist spots in any countries. But there are places that are yet to discovered and places that are gifted with amazing natural beauty. The benefits to travel off the beaten paths of large, touristy cities can also be found in your wallet: Smaller cities are typically more affordable than their nearby bigger brethren.
GET CHEAP FLIGHT TICKETS
- Make use of travel websites always. It’s a big help if you subscribe and follow their page because once they release a promo, you’ll get an automatic notification from them. From that, you’ll be able to avail their cheap flight tickets in no time. You can also find some best ticket prices in this go-to platforms (Skycanner & Traveloka) Be sure to check them out!
TRAVEL WITH SOMEONE IN ORDER TO SHARE COST
- It’s okay to go solo sometimes, but for me traveling with someone is always ideal because if you really want to save, find a friend who is willing to go on a journey with you and whose willing to split the expenses 50:50. It’s a win-win situation for the both of you!
RESEARCH THE BEST MODE OF TRANSPORTATION
- Wherever you’re going, always research on modes of transportation. Of course, commuting or taking public rides is definitely the cheapest way to go around, but renting a car or a van may also be a good idea especially if you’re with a large group. Compare the cost of commuting and renting a vehicle to know which is more practical.
JOIN TRAVEL CONTEST!
- There’s no harm in trying. In order to be properly updated on their contest, subscribe and follow their accounts. Although the chances are slim. I’ve tried many times but somehow my luck doesn’t work.
GET OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE. SEARCH FOR OTHER ACCOMMODATION OPTIONS
- There’s a lot of options for you to get an accommodation or a place to stay during your vacation (e.g. volunteering, hostels, home stay, couching, camping etc.) Always look for a cheaper alternative. It’s not always the hotels the answer for getting an accommodation.
BE A TRAVEL BLOGGER/WRITER
- Yes, you’ve read it right! Travel blog are popular these days and there are a lot inspiring writers who share their tour guides and experiences through blog. That being said, it can give you more opportunities to travel because some companies and brands would like to give you an all-expense paid trip in exchange of promotional work. But it isn’t an overnight success. You have to work hard and give your best effort to be an influential blogger.
WALK AS MUCH AS YOU CAN
- It can help you build your travel experience and help your wallet to keep in shape. Aside from taking public transportations, walking can take you to some scenic places that is not included on your itineraries or a map.
TRY OUT LOCAL FOODS, SKIP FANCY RESTAURANTS
- Try out street food, dine in local restaurants, shop for your own food at a local market and then cook your own food. Don’t go to fancy restaurants always. Remember, you’re on a budget. Spend wisely!
ASK LOCALS FOR ADVICE
- To avoid scams and exorbitant prices, you should ask people for advice on what certain things should typically cost on the area.
There you have it. I hope these tips would help you, the same way that these tips have helped me.
Love this. I think I have done almost all of these! Anything to cut costs and travel longer, right?

Sweet and simple, and sounds a lot more fun than going to crowded and expensive places! Especially the thought of going to local restaurants and non-busy places. Can’t wait until I’m 18 to fully experience going to different places myself. Do you have any suggestions you can tell for trips to go visit?

Couldn’t agree more. Whenever I hear friends say ‘how can you afford to travel, I can’t ‘ it’s usually because they’re looking in the wrong places. They’re only after Contiki tours to Europe, they go out partying every weekend and eat out all the time. You can get a lot more for your money taking the road less travelled and being money wise at home.

Very nice article , and it really helps as we really are limited by money… One way of cutting costs I may add is , rather than directly booking flights book from some other city nearby and do. like for me Bangalore to Kolkata was 9k… they i checked with chennai it s 5k…and for going to chennai it wikk cost around 2px by train.
Well keep it up … nice writings… You can check out our websitee to…

Totally agree with all of these! And I’d add that you could try to travel to places where you have friends or family, to cut down on accommodation costs. I went to Falmouth, Cornwall recently and I only managed to make that trip because my best friend was living down there 🙂
